Technology and Enterprise
| In the Technology and Enterprise learning area, students apply knowledge, skills, experience and resources to the development of technological solutions that are designed to meet the changing needs of individuals, societies and environments. Students become innovative, adaptable and reflective as they select and use appropriate materials, information, systems and processes to create solutions that consider the short- and long-term impact on societies and environments. Curriculum Framework, 1998 |
The Technology and Enterprise outcomes are inherently linked. The Technology Process outcome is integral to the achievement of all other outcomes and the breadth and depth of student achievement in Technology and Enterprise is developed in the contexts of materials, information and systems.
Achievement of Enterprise, Technology Skills and Technology in Society outcomes is demonstrated as an integral part of the Technology Process outcome. Effective planning must ensure that learning and teaching activities provide opportunities for students to achieve all these outcomes through the Technology Process.
The technology process is both 'iterative' and 'cyclic'. Students investigate relevant issues and the values inherent in technological developments and applications of technology. They consider the implications for societies and environments when identifying opportunities and when meeting individuals', groups' and communities' needs. When devising, students engage in critical and analytical thinking when they generate creative and innovative ideas to prepare design and production proposals. These proposals are in response to specifications developed from the design challenge. When producing, students effectively manage production by adapting and adjusting processes in response to constraints and any difficulties. At any stage in the process, students evaluate intentions, plans and actions with a view to modification and improvement. They develop and apply criteria to assess how well they have responded to the design challenge.
