Welcome to the Health and Physical Education Learning Area
Our philosophy is to provide students with necessary information to make informed decisions about their own personal health and also to provide the experience of games and physical activities to give students the skills necessary to develop and maintain a healthy active lifestyle. Students will be exposed to movement skills, strategies and tactics deigned to enhance performance; self-understanding and decision-making; and promotion of well-being and positive relationships.
Staff
We currently have five Physical Education staff in our office - Paul Beecham, Scott Cameron, Stuart Kupfer-Hollis, Tracy Cameron, and Belinda Anderton.
Courses
We offer a myriad of subjects designed to cater for the needs of all our students. In lower school we offer health and physical education classes to all students as well as specialised units in surfing, outdoor education, fitness and mountain biking. Students can also participate in recreation classes covering archery, golf, aquatics and table tennis, which are all designed to enable us to achieve our philosophical aims. In upper school students can satisfy the Curriculum Council's secondary graduation requirements by completion of Physical Education Studies and Outdoor Education Studies course. There is also a Surf Sciences Course which has been accredited by Curriculum Council and the Physical Education Studies Course of Study. In 2008 our Physical Education TEE students finished well above state average.
Achievements
All students our Learning Area are encouraged to participate and enjoy their physical activity. We have also enjoyed competitive performance along the way. The school participates in interschool athletics, swimming, cross country, cricket, tennis, netball, football, golf and triathlon. The school also attends the country high schools carnival (Country-week) every year. In 2006 the school also won the State Surfing Titles to be Champion School and won the B Division Girls Volleyball State Championships.
